The open-world game “Genshin Impact,” a popular mobile title from miHoYo, has set a new record for revenue.
According to data from the application store analytics firm Sensor Tower, the mobile platform revenue of “Genshin Impact,” developed by miHoYo, has surpassed $4.1 billion, equivalent to approximately 28 billion yuan RMB.
Looking back at “Genshin Impact’s” previous achievements, in 2021, the game became the highest-grossing title of the year. Moreover, in 2022, its total revenue successfully entered the global top three, following behind Tencent’s “War3Game” and “PUBG.”
Interestingly, “Genshin Impact” has been maintaining a high income growth rate in the global gaming market for a considerable period since its launch two years ago. What are the specific advantages of “Genshin Impact” compared to other similar games?
In eight months, the game’s revenue increased by over $1 billion.
According to data from Sensor Tower, China currently holds the largest market for “Genshin Impact,” with revenue of about $1.4 billion, accounting for 34.6% of total revenue. Japan ranks second, with a revenue of approximately $960 million, accounting for 23.2%. The United States and South Korea follow, with 16.4% and 6.1% of revenue respectively, totaling $860 million and $250 million.
In fact, in May 2022, the game’s total revenue reached nearly $3 billion. Eight months later, the game’s income increased by over $1 billion, reaching $4.1 billion.
During this period, “Genshin Impact” underwent six updates, from version 2.6 to version 3.3. The 3.0 major version “Morning Blossoms Bringing Dawn” was launched on August 24, 2022, following the “Ricefield” version, which introduced the large map “Nishu” and revealed new five-star characters such as Tilenir, Naxidah, and Nelt.
Sensor Tower statistics show that on the first day of the 3.0 version’s global launch, the game’s revenue topped multiple country game charts. The iOS mobile revenue alone exceeded $12 million (approximately 82 million RMB), with growth more than three times that of the second-ranked game, “Sakura Gal” by Cygames.
In the 3.2 version launched in November, “Genshin Impact” introduced the “Crest God” Naxidah and popular character Aegir. According to data from the app analysis platform,蝉应用, the daily revenue in the first three days after the mid-3.2 version launch reached a peak of nearly $630,000 (approximately 43 million RMB) on November 4th, with only iOS revenue.

In less than two weeks, “Genshin Impact” achieved nearly 2.3 billion RMB in revenue, breaking the highest record for game pool revenue.
Apart from its high income growth rate, “Genshin Impact” has also garnered positive user reviews and external buzz. Currently, on the TapTap gaming community, the game has a total rating of 8.7, with over 410,000 users rating it, including 200,000 users giving it a five-star rating. In July, “Genshin Impact” released the “Genshin Impact: Tales of Tiawat” PV “Winter Foolery,” which has been viewed over 20.8 million times on Bilibili and 13.6 million times on YouTube. In December, the game won the “Voice of the Player” award at the 2022 The Game Awards, selected by players based on their preferences.
